The first Reitmans store opened in 1926, on St. Laurent Boulevard in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
Herman and Sarah Reitman and their children ran this landmark store, which was a traditional "general" store. It soon became clear, however, that it was the women's ready-to-wear line that was incredibly popular. The second location soon opened, selling only women's apparel, and the rest, as they say, is history.
