4,000 Avion points (“Welcome Points”) will appear on your monthly credit card statement within sixty (60) days after your application has been approved, provided that your RBC ION Visa credit card account (“Credit Card Account”) remains open and in good standing at the time the Welcome points are credited to your account, “good standing” meaning that your Credit Card Account must not be past due for more than two (2) consecutive credit card account statement periods, closed, charged off or in credit revoked status.

Part 1: Avion Rewards Points Value per Canadian Dollar

  • Travel: 172 Avion Points = $ 1 CAD, which means 1 Avion Point ≈ $ 0.0058 or 0.58 cents per point for travel redemptions.
  • Merchandise, Gift Cards, Financial Products: Similar to travel, 172 Avion Points = $ 1 CAD, so about 0.58 cents per point.

Part 2: Avion Rewards Points Value per 100 Canadian Dollars

  • All Redemptions: Approximately 34,400 Avion Points for $ 200 CAD, or 17,200 Points for $ 100 CAD based on the rate of 172 points for $ 1 CAD.

Part 3: Summary for Best Value

To maximize the value from the RBC® ION Visa Card:
  • Focus on Bonus Categories: Earn more points by spending in categories where the card offers higher earn rates.
  • Redeem for Travel: While the redemption rate might not be the highest, travel can still offer good value, especially for lower-cost flights or when combined with other travel deals.
  • Combine Points: If you have or can open an Avion Rewards credit card that offers a better redemption rate for travel, you might transfer your ION Visa points there for better value.
  • Link with Partners: Utilize partnerships like Petro-Canada to earn additional points or savings which can indirectly increase the effective value of your Avion points.

Part 4: Avion Rewards Points Earned per $ 1000 Spending by Category

  • Grocery, Dining, Food Delivery, Rides, Gas, EV Charging, Streaming Services, Subscriptions: 1,500 Avion Points per $ 1,000 spent (1.5 points per dollar).
  • All Other Purchases: 1,000 Avion Points per $ 1,000 spent (1 point per dollar).
